Every year since 2012, the American marque has revealed a new COPO Camaro, and the 2016 model year Chevrolet COPO Camaro has just been revealed at SEMA 2015.
The 2016 model is particularly noteworthy as it’s based around the sixth-generation Camaro. It has been designed to participate in the NHRA’s Stock and Super Stock Eliminator Classes and will be strictly limited to just 69 examples. Thanks to the six-gen Camaro’s lighter and stronger body, the 2016 COPO Camaro is 28 per cent more rigid while weighing 133 pounds less.
Interested customers will be able to select from a range of engines ( a supercharged 5.7-litre V8, a naturally-aspirated 7.0-litre V8 or a 6.2-litre V8). All are mated to a race-ready three-speed automatic transmission. There is also a new fuel cell and high-pressure fuel pump. Experts say that with the new Gen Six Camaro as its foundation, the 2016 COPO Camaro begins the next chapter of an historic racing legacy.
